It's Monday morning and at the top of their to-do list is the item they've been to before. 7 The days have changed.
You know the subject well, but the words do not appear and you can only look at a blank document.
I can relate. It happened to me when I sat down to write it.
It's writer's block, and it's your nemesis if you want to do things.
What is writer's block?
Writer's block is the complete lack of ability to constantly put your thoughts on paper. When I started this article, I clenched my annoying teeth because I couldn't continue.
And the more my anger grew, the harder it was to write. It is a cycle of self-determination where the only way to overcome it is to abandon the situation completely.
How to overcome writer's block
So how did I manage to overcome the obstacles by writing this post? These are some of the things that I have tried and found successfully.
1, Change your expectations
One of the many reasons we are stuck as writers is that we have high expectations of ourselves. And we fight when we can't hit them.
Not being able to write when we say we should is just a failure, not the end of the world. The only thing that hurts when you can't write is your image of how to behave.
Sit down with your emotions for a moment and really analyze them. Do you get stuck because you feel like your writing is not good enough? Are you afraid of not being able to compete with other better writers?
It's okay to feel that way, but believing in these thoughts can be devastating. Change your expectations. Sure, you're not perfect, you're not Stephen King, and you don't have to be. But you are good enough to do what you have to do.
2, Eliminate distractions
We live in a world full of distractions and it is easy to deviate from what is happening in us. Twitter or continue updating your inbox.
In a time of information overload, eliminating distractions is an effective way to focus on the task at hand.
When it comes to your phone, don't turn on as you type. Or turn off messages for non-essential functions like calls and text messages.
You will be surprised how much time you save by not looking at your phone or social networks.
note: I removed notifications from all my apps on my phone and laptop and cut my machine time in half!
Writer's block often hits me when I'm alone for a while. Even as an introvert, I occasionally benefit from a small human connection. And if I haven't had one in a while, the feeling of isolation has subsided and I'm having a hard time concentrating.
We are social beings by nature. So if you take the time to make contacts, you can charge your batteries and turn off the steam. Plus, the social environment exposes you to more thoughts and ideas than you would have seen on the same four walls.
You can even go a step further and take your letter with you. Go to a local coffee shop or library and enjoy the atmosphere as you write.
Invite a friend to work with you so you can take regular breaks. You will soon discover that working at the company is much faster.
4, Play a game
As your creative energy declines, play a game. I often turn to games to brainstorm and escape the reality of an empty mind.
Some may consider games as a distraction technique, but in my experience they can be used to inspire you.
Along with some great soundtracks and improved graphics, games can teach you:
- How not to write: look at the interaction between the characters. Choose the mistakes and think how you would do better.
- About writing an action: Choose a game with a great story to learn how ideas interlock.
- To pay attention to detail, you need to look closely at the details of a game. Be it the narrative, an instrument of action, or a description. This may be enough to generate one or two ideas.
You can also play a game for fun and escape. If you stop thinking about writing and get inspired by something else, this is definitely the trick.
One of the most popular tips writers get is that you need to read and read a lot to be a good writer.
The same goes for writers who face writer's block. If you take the time to immerse yourself in the writing of others, you will be exposed to a new world of language ideas that you have not yet explored.
Nor does it have to be someone else's writing. Reviewing the articles you wrote earlier, the old blog posts, and even the stories you wrote as a child are a way to get familiar with your own writing style.
You can even rediscover the true style you've lost through years of training and learning to write.
6, listening to music
Music is a sure way to overcome the pain of writer's block. Whether you're listening to brainstorming or walking away from your laptop to absorb some noise without being distracted.
Repeating my youth players is often a useful exercise. They tend to evoke nostalgia and bring excitement to the surface, which is a great liner for writing material.

On the other hand, listening to soothing sounds while writing is an excellent environment to focus on your writing. There are even custom playlists like Spotify to keep you focused.
If they catch me, I'll light it up Sound Playlist or set some abstract sounds to block my environment.
Or a bath. Or you will. The process of doing something every day, like washing, gives your mind space. And if you're stuck on something, your brain is more likely to find a solution if it has some room to breathe.
On the other hand, a good soda in a cold shower can rejuvenate and revitalize it. It may be exactly what you need if you're sitting at your desk always looking at a screen.
Many writers praise the virtues of being outside generating ideas. Even Charles Darwin had some of his greatest breakthroughs during his daily walks.
In a study of StanfordThe researchers found that walking encourages creativity and creates inspiration. Convergent thinking appears as a specific area that is improved through training. That is, the ability to find solutions to a problem that we all face when we experience writer's block.
So going to the gym, running in the morning, or just taking a short walk or two around the block can be a hit to get your system working.
9 rain of ideas
For good reason, brainstorming is repeatedly mentioned as a creative solution to many problems. Emptying your thoughts and putting them on paper allows you to more easily visualize ideas and connections.
For the writer's block, brainstorming is an effective way to generate ideas. Try playing the word association with brainstorming. Write the main topic of your article or blog post on the page and think of words that can relate to it in some way.
Better yet, open a thesaurus to help. At the end of the exercise, not only will you become much more familiar with the topic, but you will also have related words and ideas popping up in your head waiting to appear on the page.
10. do nothing
After all, sometimes you just have to For and sit alone with your thoughts. We spend much of our day dealing with every little task and every detail, as we never have enough time to learn to sit and watch.
Yes, it is uncomfortable. Your fingers may be shaking to grab your phone and turn off boredom. But being able to sit with your discomfort is a valuable experience. It allows you to observe things as they are and take your thoughts into account as they happen.
If you practice this exercise, over time you will find that writer's block is a volatile situation, and it happens too. And you'll be comfortable enough to sit with him on time.
Every writer fears the beginning of writer's block because it means that our productivity will be affected. No matter how hard we try to avoid this, it is inevitable that you visit us.
But don't worry, it won't ruin your writing career. It is just a problem that you can overcome like anything else.
Try some of the methods suggested above to fix it. Write in a social setting, go for a walk, or attend one or two of your favorite games.
Eventually it disappears and your mind returns to the subject.
