The review that today we bring you from Alcatel 1S It is from these tests where we must be very clear about the type of user who is attracted to a terminal with these characteristics, since only in this way can we assess it in its proper measure.
We understand that the person looking for a smartphone like this, is the one who will not use the phone to play top-level games, nor will he expect the best camera on the market, but some minimums that allow him use the terminal without experiencing any stoppages or problems.
And that is where, on some occasions, brands often want to make these types of phones so extremely cheap that they forget the user experience. We'll see if this happens to Alcatel 1S or if, on the contrary, the brand has managed to combine price with usability.

Design from another era
When you see the Alcatel 1S for the first time it already gives you the feeling of being before a terminal “almost from another era”, with some very pronounced frames (especially upper and lower), and a rear with a design too simple and without any notch or hole on the screen.
The weight is very well achieved, since his body is made of plastic, in addition to having an ergonomics that makes it comfortable in your hand.
On the back of the terminal we have the Alcatel logo, the fingerprint sensor and the double sensor camera that protrudes from the body of the terminal, with the consequent risk of scratching.
On the right side we can see the volume control and power-off buttons on the phone.
On the left side is the slot to house the SIM and microSD.
Below we can see the call microphone, the micro USB to charge the terminal and the multimedia speaker.
On the top is the 3.5 mm jack for headphones.
The screen is at its level
The Alcatel 1S screen is a panel 5.5-inch IPS LCD with HD + resolution which grants 293 pixels per inch.
Once we have seen the numbers, our feeling is to be before a sufficient screen for the type of user You will acquire this phone. It is a screen very similar to that of the Alcatel 3, with the same shortcomings, but considering that the 1S is a terminal about 60 euros cheaper.
Neither color nor brightness are spectacular, but enoughwhile at certain times we miss some more sharpness.
The sound, as in a very high percentage of this range, is where it is first trimmed to adjust prices. Well, precisely in this Alcatel 1S we are facing a quality sound quite disappointing since it distorts, it has metallic sound and not to mention bass or body, although the volume is correct.
The little demanding will be happy
The specifications of the Alcatel 1S show us a little known processor with a RAM and storage superior to many terminals in its range. These are its characteristics:
- Spreadtrum Unisoc SC9863A processor Eight-core and 1.6 GHz clock frequency.
- 3 GB of RAM.
- 32 GB of internal storage that we can expand by means of a microSD card up to 128 GB.
- PowerVR GE8322 as a GPU
We found all this together with Android 9 Pie and a slight layer of customization that, except for certain details, leaves us with an Android stock experience.
Yes, we have noticed occasional breakdown and failure in transitions When handling this layer. In general, it is a terminal that is solved with ease in our day to day and that when we demand it does not behave badly at all, although we must understand its deficiencies.
Obviously, when we try to play moderately demanding games, loading times and lag, make an appearance to remind us that we have a cheap input range terminal.
It is not impossible to play first level games, like Asphalt 9, but the loss of frames and loading times make I ended up being tedious to play.
If we get into the connectivity section we see that, in general, we are well served with the occasional absence. We do not lack the WiFi b / g / n / n 5 GHz, Bluetooth 4.2, A-GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, FM Radio and 3.5 mm jack for headphones, although we have neither NFC nor USB C.
Unlock better with the footprint
The terminal unlock is given by two aspects, the face unlock and the fingerprint sensor.
As for facial unlocking, we saw them and wished for the system to recognize our face, but once achieved, the identification is quite irregular (it fails a lot) and the unlocking is correct and fast, as long as there is good light, since if the lighting fades it will force us more than once to use the fingerprint reader.
The fingerprint reader is quite reliable and fairly fast in unlocking, which makes it the best way to open your smartphone safely.
The camera has surprised us
In the back we have two sensors to take pictures, which are:
- Main Sensor: CMOS type of 13 megapixels, focal aperture 2.0 and 1,120 µm pixel size.
- Secondary Sensor: 2 megapixels, aperture f / 2.2 (depth sensor).
The photographs of this Alcatel 1S are nothing spectacular, but they have surprised us since it is a terminal that does not exceed 90 euros.
The Image treatment is better than we expected with colors that, despite being a bit muted, transmit a good feeling of reality. Where the image tends to blur is in those areas where there is too much clarity and is not able to adapt the image.
Obviously when we lose the light, the photos suffer an important descent, but it is normal in phones of this range and price.
When we want to do the bokeh effect, having a camera for depth helps, although the blur is too artificial and the clipping is not entirely correct.
It can record at 1080p (30fps) with a quality that we can call decent, although we really miss an optical stabilizer because camera movements are very noticeable.
The front camera is 5 megapixels, enough to get by if we need to take a selfie, but without expecting a lot of quality and checking that there is enough light, because otherwise the photo will not be satisfactory.
Capable autonomy, incapable load
The Alcatel 1S battery has a 3,060 mAh capacity. The autonomy has shown itself at a good level since there will be users that can be around the day and a half of battery. In a medium-intensive use it reaches the end of the day without problems.
We do not have the slightest hint of fast charge in this Alcatel 1S since the 0 to 100% battery does it in about three hours, an excessive amount clearly.
We have already reached the end of the Alcatel 1S review and it is time to make a summary of a terminal with which we have verified that the brand has made a mobile enough and quite linear, for a very tight price.
