With the arrival of watchOS 5, we saw the birth of a new and striking feature called Walkie-Talkie that allowed us to communicate by voice messages through our Apple Watch.
Being a function that mainly used voice messages, it obviously required that the clock capture the incoming sound of the internal microphone. And well, as expected, the system has a vulnerability that allows anyone else to hear conversations.
As reported by TechCrunch, Apple I would have recognized the existence of this security flaw that directly affects our privacy, so the company has decided to suspend the service of the Walkie-Talkie application, communicating it as follows:
We have just been aware of a vulnerability related to the Walkie-Talkie application in the Apple Watch and we have deactivated the function while we look for the solution. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and we will restore the functionality as soon as possible. Although we are not aware of any use of vulnerability against a client and specific conditions and sequences of events are required to exploit it, we take the security and privacy of our clients very seriously. We concluded that disabling the application was the correct course of action, since this error could allow someone to listen through another client's iPhone without their consent. We apologize again for this problem and the inconvenience.
So you already know dear reader, if you were a user of this function, you will not be able to use it until Apple Resolve this vulnerability and publish a new software update.
