Battlefield 2042 Free Upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series in Basic Edition

Battlefield 2042 will release for free the upgrade to the new generation of consoles in all digital editions of the game, including the most basic one. Thanks to this change, gamers won’t need to spend any more money for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades. Additionally, Electronic Arts has confirmed that the game will support cross-platform progression.

Before, if the player wanted the improved graphics and performance of the next generation consoles, they had to buy the “Cross-Gen Bundle”, for $339, or the Gold edition, for $499. These two digital versions included Battlefield 2042 for PS4 and Xbox One, as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, plus the first Season Pass in the Gold edition.

From now on, those who purchase the Standard edition, for R$ 299, will have the option to download not only the previous generation version of Battlefield 2042, as well as improved gameplay for the latest consoles. However, this rule only applies to purchases in virtual stores of video games — PS Store and Microsoft Store. EA has yet to say whether it will offer the free upgrade on physical media.

This same move was made by Sony last month, when the company removed the charge for the upgrade of Forbidden West horizon for PS5. In case of Battlefield 2042, the change was not expected by fans of the franchise, as Electronic Arts never promised a free upgrade for the game, and other games from the company, such as FIFA 22, also did not offer the improvements without additional cost.

We still don’t know if whoever booked the Cross-Gen Bundle will receive any compensation or refund.

In addition to removing the next-gen upgrade charge, EA has confirmed that Battlefield 2042 will support cross-platform progression. This means that it will be possible to start the campaign on PS4 and finish on PS5, without repeating missions, and vice versa.

open beta of Battlefield 2042 starts this week

The open trial period of Battlefield 2042 will start on Friday (8) on all platforms. Players who pre-ordered the game and EA Play subscribers will be able to access the beta two days earlier on Wednesday (6). Everyone will have until Saturday (9) to experience Conquest mode on the Orbital map.

It’s worth mentioning that the progress acquired during the beta will not be maintained in the final game, but you will be able to take screenshots and record videos at will. To go online on Xbox consoles, you must be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber. On the PlayStation, you don’t need to pay PS Plus to access multiplayer.

Battlefield 2042 is scheduled for a release date of November 19, 2021 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store and Origin).
