Core i9-10900F, Watercooling AIO required to cope with its 224 Watts?

You’ll probably need some solid cooling systems to get the most out of Intel’s next Core i9-109xxx. A new report mentions a thermal envelope of up to 224 Watts.

Intel is preparing an alternative to AMD’s Ryzen 3000 series. It takes the form of the Core of 10th generation alias Comet Lake-S. Several showcases are planned, in particular in the Core i9 range. According to @Wolstame the next Core i9-10900F will be energy intensive. In certain circumstances this gourmet is likely to reach 224 Watts.

This figure is impressive because we are not even in the presence of a version with an unlocked multiplier. This Core i9-10900F simply has an iGPU part disabled. Its mechanics offers 10 physical cores accompanied by Hyper-Threading technology, i.e. 20 logical cores. The PL1 is fixed at 170 W against 224 Watts for the PL2.

This significant energy consumption is probably necessary to reach a frequency of 4.5 GHz on all cores in boost mode. It’s about having a multicore response to the current Ryzen 9 3900X and 3950X.

With such figures, Intel will surely recommend high-end AIO-type cooling solutions. For its part AMD recommends an AIO of 280 to ensure the cooling of its imposing Ryzen 9 3950X equipped with 16 physical cores and 32 logical cores thanks to SMT technology.
