Does PS5 have the potential to kill with PC Gaming? Is it true? – In every release of a new generation of consoles, we have the classic opinion pieces saying ‘Now is the PC going to die!’ But does that make sense?
So let's take a look at the article on ccn.com, which says that this is where Sony is really going to blow the PC market with its new PlayStation 5 (PS5) console.
So as you may know, the PlayStation 5 will hit the market with very interesting specs. By the way, there are many rumors that suggest a computing capacity (PS5 GPU) at a level very similar to that of a RTX 2070 Super or RTX 2080.
It is safe to say that PlayStation 5 will be significantly faster than some of the most popular graphics cards on the market.
Thus, the GPU based on the PS5 AMD Navi architecture should be able to reach 9.2 TFLOPs of computing power. That is, just slightly below what a RTX 2080 is capable of producing (10.1 TFLOPS)
Is this a problem for the PC market?
After all, with this kind of hardware, it is possible for many PC gamers to look at this world as the ability to play at a very high quality level, spending only a fraction of the money on a high end PC.
Why? If you don't know, a RTX 2080 costs around ~ 800 € in the current market. While an RTX 2070 costs ~ 600 €.
Well, although we still don't know the price of the PlayStation 5, Sony is unlikely to repeat the mistake of launching a console costing € 599. (Even taking into account analysts talking about a price of around € 800… This makes no sense to the console market.)
So, considering that the PlayStation 4 was launched at € 399 in 2013, after Sony suffered a lot from its € 599 PS3… It is very likely that the price of the PS5 is around 399-499 €.
In short, the PS5 is expected to hit the market for the same price as an RTX 2070, with 4K resolution support, framerate around 120FPS, Ray-Tracing, a Zen 2 architecture-based CPU, a Custom SSD, etc…
That is, a complete gaming system for the price of a simple graphics card.
So will PS5 really mean the end of PCs ???? Of course not!
In the end, I may be suspicious of being a PC enthusiast… But in my opinion, consoles will never be able to kill the PC, simply because a computer can be updated at any time. While a console is launched one way, and little will run away from it. (Excluding Pro versions, first released in this last generation)
That is, although the PS5 GPU promises a lot, the console will only be launched at the end of 2020… And who knows how the graphics card market will be at that time!
Incidentally, the RTX 2070 that is used so much in comparisons is not even in production anymore. Replaced by the very recent RTX 2070 Super, which uses the same GPU as the RTX 2080.
To put things very simply, when the PS5 hits the market… Both NVIDIA and AMD will already have a new generation of graphics cards in the market.
Which in turn will put the GPU of any console in your pocket. Especially now, that AMD has woken up to life! And it seems to be ready to take the war into the territory of its rival NVIDIA.
