Within the Pokémon world we now have a new creature that closely resembles the bassist of the popular rock band Kiss, Gene Simmons. The musician was quite surprised at the news which was released by The Pokémon Company, who revealed a new creature called Obstagoon that we can capture in the titles of ‘Pokémon Shield & Sword’.
The new Pokémon is the evolved form of the Linoone Galarian variant and is basically a rather angry bipedal badger. However, it quickly became clear that Obstagoon was at least partially inspired by Gene Simmons of the Kiss band, since he not only has facial markings similar to the house painting used by this band's musicians, but also has a Long tongue, shoulder pads and thick armor in the best style of Kiss.
In a statement issued to Newsweek, Simmons seemed happy with the tribute:
“Pokémon has been part of our home for decades, since our children first discovered them. Seeing Pokémon pay tribute to Kiss is more than flattering. ”
A bad rocker badger in the title
Obstagoon's design is a bit confusing since ‘Pokémon Sword & Shield‘ is set in the Galar region, a part of the UK-inspired Pokémon world. While a Beatles-based Pokémon might make sense, Kiss is an American rock band and Gene Simmons has very little to do with the United Kingdom. But what does make sense is to include a badger as a creature, since these animals are very easily found within British territory.
We still don't know Obstagoon's special attacks but it would be very funny if he had one called Detroit Rock City, one of the band's most iconic songs. The truth is that we can enjoy this creature from November 15 when ‘Pokémon Sword & Shield’ goes on sale exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
