Google, Facebook and Oracle could track your porn consumption (even in incognito mode) 2

There are at least three technology companies that could know what kind of porn you see. This was revealed Thursday by an investigation by Microsoft, Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pennsylvania.

According to the study, published by the New York Times, porn sites are plagued with trackers that send their users' information to third parties, including companies such as Google, Facebook Y Oracle. And yes, even if you are using an incognito mode on your computer.

Few privacy policies, lots of data

The research is based on the analysis of 22,484 porn sites. Of these, at least one 93% would collect information from their users and send it to third parties. Everything, obviously, without your consent and without clear use.

The study also reveals that only 17% of these porn sites have privacy policies. Meanwhile, another 17% do not have any encryption, putting at risk all the information that can accumulate.

At the tracker level, the study ensures that a 74% are developed by Google, 24% from Oracle and 10% from Facebook.

So far it is unknown what would be the information that these systems would collect, at what level of detail, nor for what purpose.

“The fact that the adult site tracking mechanism is so similar to online sales should be an alarm signal. This is much more specific and deeply personal, ”said researcher Elena Maris to the NYT.

What do the technology say?

Both Google and Facebook They said they did not use information collected from pornographic sites to create marketing profiles.

“We do not allow ads from Google on websites with adult content and we prohibit personalized advertising and advertising profiles based on the sexual interests of users or related online activities. In addition, the tags of our advertising services are not enabled to transmit personally identifiable information, ”the internet giant told NYT.

Meanwhile, the social network assured the media: “our company prohibits sex websites from using the tracking tools of Facebook for commercial purposes, such as advertising. ”
