Google has many projects that users are unaware of. Some of them are not popular, and others are kept secret by the company itself. However, the point here is not that the search giant wants to extract secrets, but the unwillingness to spread about products that were not ready beforehand. However, in the end, it may not work, and then it must be explained why the announced new products were frozen or completely canceled, as is the case with the AirPower wireless charging station from Apple. Another thing is that sometimes even Google cannot hide the existence of new projects, which will soon be made public.

Google has already applied to register the Pigweed brand. According to information in the database of the US Patent and Trademark Office. In the US, the search giant's brand action extends to operating systems and computer software. Does it look something like that? Also, tech companies often register new trademarks and patents as reservations, without even having a plan for it. However, in Pigweed's case, everything turned out to be somewhat different.
New Google operating system
Despite the fact that the first public mention of Pigweed occurred precisely with the presentation of the US Patent and Trademark Office. In the USA, a more detailed analysis shows that this is not entirely true. It turns out that references to new projects are also contained in the Fuchsia operating system, which Google, due to its flexibility, is used to test and debug innovations for existing platforms. For example, based on Fuchsia, the company's developers tested many Android features before realizing their lives in the release version.

Additionally, Pigweed already has its own development team, which is not part of the company's staff. They tested it using bug tracking systems like Gerrit and Monorail. From this we can conclude that if a new operating system is not ready for launch, at least it has a physical realization, where there are bugs and its own set of functions. In fact, you must admit that if it is a project that is only explained on paper, obviously nothing will be edited and tested.
Why do we need Pigweed?
It is not very clear what Pigweed really is. On the one hand, it is already known that this is an operating system, but, on the other hand, it is not understood what its purpose will be, what set of functions it will have, and most importantly, when it will be launched and if it will be launched. However, as we recall, Google already had a fuchsia project, which apparently was not the successor to Android and Chrome SO, but only a testing ground to test new features. So there is no guarantee that Pigweed is not the next fuchsia iteration, but a trading platform.

However, if you think about it with your brain, you can think pretty quickly about Pigweed's purpose. Even though Google currently has an operating system for smartphones, watches, and computers, Pigweed could combine them into a single unit. Is this necessary from a practical point of view? In my opinion, yes. In the end, not without reason, Huawei makes HarmonyOS universal, because in this way it will be easier to develop and maintain without directly spraying it on several projects that are separated from each other.
