Danny Sullivan of Google confirms that selecting a temporarily closed Google My Business list does not affect ranking or visibility.
As companies closed their doors to limit the spread of the corona virus, Google introduced a "temporarily closed" indicator in Google My Business.
Initially, there was concern that this indicator would negatively impact search rankings.
An affected businessman approached Sullivan to suggest that Google come up with a solution that would not reduce search visibility.
This is important because some companies continue to work online, even if their physical location is closed.
Here is Sullivan's answer:
Temporarily closed does not affect classification or visibility.

The Google Guide previously stated explicitly that closed companies with limited visibility appear on Google.
As noted on this Tharindu G screen, a warning is displayed before a company is marked as temporarily closed.
As of March 30, Google has officially published its guidelines for the temporary closure of companies affected by COVID19.
A temporarily closed deal is now treated the same way as an open deal:
"If your COVID-19 company Update your Google My Business profile to provide your customers with the most accurate information …
Marking your business temporarily closed has no effect on search ranking and is treated similarly to open business. "
This is a completely new change that Google has just released. Sullivan says the company plans to get better news soon.
Currently, the most important thing is that you can mark a company as temporarily closed without consequences.
Google then displays the following message in the company profile in the search results.
Now that you know that location searching has no effect, you can mark a business as temporarily closed here.
