Tomorrow in Valparaíso, Google with the authorities, headed by the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt, expects to inaugurate the terrestrial anchor point of the cable called Curie.
Chile currently connects with the rest of the world through two submarine cables. One of them is the South America-1 (SAM-1), belonging to the Texliu company. This has an extension of 25,000 kilometers and connects Arica and Valparaíso with the rest of Latin America and Central America. The second is the South America Crossing (SAC), with its 20,000 kilometers linking much of the continent, connecting in Chile, in Valparaíso.
In addition to the previous two, the government hopes to complete the construction of an underwater cable that a Chile with Asia. For this, market studies have already begun to complete this project.
For its part, Google announced during 2018 the construction of the Curie submarine cable, which seeks to link Chile with California. The construction of this cable is completed after 20 years since the last installation of an underwater cable in the country. For this and two more projects, the company allocated US $ 30 million, and in this way put them into operation during 2020.
