Have a rate that includes a large number of data on our mobile It has become almost essential. Especially if we want to browse social networks, see photos and videos or listen to music and we don't have access to a WiFi connection. Therefore, it is essential to control the consumption of mobile data to avoid unpleasant surprises.
Although the operators usually offer rates with figures that are increasingly high and that tend to intensify in summer, the truth is that if we do not have some control, we can see how browsing speed is reduced ahead of time or carry unexpected expenses on the bill.
Control data consumption on Android
To know How much data of your rate have you consumed on your Android phone, you must go to the Settings of your phone and follow a few simple steps. We have tested it on a Xiaomi Mi A1 with Android 9 Pie, but you must keep in mind that this route may change depending on the phone and the operating system you have installed. That said, you should do the following.
- Enter Settings
- Choose 'Networks and Internet'.
- Select 'Data usage'.
When you do, a screen will open where you can see the monthly data consumption, how many data you have left and how many days of validity the current plan has.
In addition, in the option 'Use of application data' you can check which are the applications that you have installed that consume more data.
At this same point, you can also control the data consumption of each application. Thus, if you click on any of them (in our case, Photos), a new window will open where you can enable or disable the 'Data in the background' or the 'Unrestricted use of data'.
But beyond consulting the data consumption on your smartphone, Android also allows set limits to keep them at bay and not run out of internet connection before finishing the billing cycle. Thus, in the 'Data usage' window we saw earlier, you will find the option 'Data limit and warning'.
When you click on it, you will find several options. The first thing you should do is click on 'Application data usage cycle' and configure when your consumption restarts of data to reset the counter to zero. Choose the day you want and click on 'Set'.
Then activate the function 'Set data warning'. At the moment the option 'Data warning' will be activated, where you must click and set the data limit so that, once reached, the system sends you a warning, although you can continue using the internet without any problem.
The last measure is the most drastic. Beyond the warnings, if you select 'Set data limit' the phone will deactivate mobile data when the limit is reached settled down. When you click on accept, you will see the option 'Data limit'. You just have to click on it to set the number you want.
You should keep in mind that the measurement is based on the calculations of the device and they may not match your operator’s data, so they should help you calculate your monthly consumption rather than take it as exact numbers.
Control data consumption on iPhone
Apple always usually have more limitations that Android when controlling certain aspects of the iPhone, but still, allows us to check the mobile data consumption of the phone. To do this, you must follow the steps below.
Go to the 'Settings' and select 'Mobile data'. If you go down to the "Mobile data" option you will find the current period figure and current roaming period.
Here are two options: check the mobile data usage of system services or the consumption of the different applications that you have installed on your mobile.
In the first case, it is about iPhone services such as push notifications, time and place or software updates. You should keep in mind that you will not be able to deactivate mobile data for certain services.
In the second, you will be able to check what they are the applications that consume the most data from your rate and you can deactivate the mobile data consumption of the apps you want, so that they only work when you are connected to a WiFi network.
To control consumption, it is recommended that reset the number every time you finish the billing period, so you will know exactly how much data you have spent during those days and how many you have left. To do this, you must go down until you find the option 'Reset statistics'.
With operator applications
Beyond checking the data consumption on your device, you can do it in the operators own applications, where you can check your rate data.
Virtually all operators have an application where you can check this information. This is the case of My Movistar (iOS / Android), My Vodafone (iOS / Android), My Orange (iOS / Android), My Threat (iOS / Android) or My Yoigo (iOS / Android) for putting just a few examples. In all of them, you can manage everything related to your mobile line, from data consumption to calls or checking all your bills.
With third party applications
Beyond the information provided by iOS and Android and your operator's applications, you can also go to third-party apps
3G Watchdog is probably one of the best known, although you will only find it on Google Play. With it, you can control the data usage of your mobile rate and the WiFi network, so you can know exactly how much you consume. The information is displayed in a very visual way thanks to the graphics and you can set alerts about your activity.
My Data Manager
As in the previous case, My Data Manager allows you to control the consumption of mobile data to avoid surprises. With it, we can monitor applications to know which ones use more data and make sure we reach the end of the month without extra charges.
My Data Manager
Data Widget allows you to control data consumption quickly and, above all, efficiently. To start using it, just enter information such as the expected data limit What do you want to spend or the dates of the billing period.
