If you have a company with a physical address, adding it to Google, and therefore making it searchable through Google Maps, is a great way to allow customers to find your business and communicate with you.

It also gives your company an air of legitimacy: which company can’t be searched on Google Maps today?


So if you have a new business, be it the first or the tenth, it is important to make sure that it is accessible through Google.

Next, we tell you everything you need to know to add your company to Google Maps.

How to add your company to Google

If you already have a Google My Business account, these are the steps you must follow to add your new company:

  1. Go to Google’s My Business and make sure you’re signed in (or follow the instructions to sign up for an account).
  2. Enter the name and address of your company in the search bar and select “Add your company” (assuming it is not on the list, in which case you must claim it as yours).
  3. Choose if you want your business location to appear on Google Maps. If you are adding a restaurant, being on Google Maps is incredibly useful. But if you’re just adding a small business to a temporary activity you do away from home, keeping that location private might be a good idea.
  4. Add the requested information, such as business category. If you’re not sure which category your company belongs to, try typing a related keyword in the box and see what appears. And remember that later you can add additional categories.
  5. Check your business. Here are all the ways you can verify your identity on Google:

– By mail. Google will send a physical postcard that includes a verification pin, which you will then use to verify online.

– By phone. Google will call you and provide you with a verification code over the phone. This is only available to certain companies.

– By email. Google will send you the code by email. Again, this is only available to certain companies.

– Massive verification. If your company has more than 10 locations, you will need to submit an additional form so that they can be verified all at once. To do this, when you click “Get Verification,” click “Chain” and enter all of your information. It can take up to a week for Google to process the request.

– Google Search Console. If you have a Google Search Console account and your company’s website is verified through Search Console, you can verify your account instantly. Some business categories cannot do this.

If you don’t have a My Business account yet, you can add your business and create an account at the same time. The steps are essentially the same as we listed above, except you’ll need to click “Create account” on the My Business home page, and each question (such as company name or address) is separated into individual pages.
