JJ Abrams to Develop Dark Justice League for HBO Max

According to The Hollywood Report, JJ Abrams will develop three drama series to be released on HBO Max. In January of this year, it was announced that the director would be in initial talks to create attractions based on characters from DC Comics. Now, Warner Media has confirmed the information and specified future productions: a spin-off of The illuminated, a production entitled duster and an adaptation of Dark Justice League.

The series will be part of the agreement between Bad Robot and Warner Studios, developed by Abrams and Katie McGrath. β€œWhat an incredible start to our association with Bad Robot’s imaginative team, under JJ and Katie,” said Kevin Reilly, director of content at HBO Max.

The first one will be Overlook, a horror thriller inspired by the work’s iconic hotel The illuminated. However, it has not yet been revealed whether it will be a spin-off from the 1980 movie, directed by Stanley Kubrick, or a derivative of Stephen King’s book. The show will explore other untold stories from the haunting location. According to the deadline, Dustin Thomason and Scott Brown, from castle rock, are in negotiations to take over the scripts.

Already duster, a crime series idealized by Abrams, will be set in the southwestern United States in the 1970s. The plot will follow the life of a courageous getaway driver, who works for a rising crime syndicate, described as “dangerously savage and horrible”. The plot will also be signed by LaToya Morgan (The Walking Dead).

Finally we will have Dark Justice League

Finally, and much to the delight of DC fans, the third project is presented as a great show based on the characters from Dark Justice League. Still untitled, the attraction that has been discussed for years β€” it has even gone through attempts to become a film under the command of Guilherme Del Toro and other directors β€” will center on the team dedicated to combating mystical and supernatural threats.

The group first appeared in the publisher’s comics in 2011. Among its core members are: John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Challenger, Madame Xanadu, the demon Etrigan, and others who have been featured over the years. However, further details have not yet been released, such as which of these figures will participate in the series.

That way, all three attractions will have Abrams as executive producer. The titles will also feature the involvement of Ben Stephenson, head of television at Bad Robot, and Rachel Rusch Rich as co-executive producer. These were the first series announced after the agreement was signed. Soon, other productions may also be developed in the future.

It is worth pointing out that so far, it has not been revealed whether, in fact, Abrams will direct some of these series. HBO Max is scheduled to launch in May, in the United States, with a monthly subscription in the amount of US$ 15. The arrival of the streaming service in Brazil has not yet been revealed.
