With PlayStation 5 getting closer to its release date sometime in 2020, it is obvious that DevKits have been distributed and are full of use by Sony's many partner studios! However, we have not yet been lucky enough to see one of these kits… So far!
Reputed sites Let's Go Digital just found a very interesting patent from Sony, which apparently served to register the 'DevKit' on PS5!
The registration application is for “unknown electronic device”, but it is undeniable that we are talking about a console here. After all, Sony engineer Yasuhiro Ootori, who helped create the PS4, appears on the patent as a designer. But first of all, look at the image of the device.
So… We have very interesting looking hardware here. Of course we have no idea what Sony's idea was. But the large number of doors ahead indicate that we are in the presence of a devKit.
Will the final design of the PlayStation 5 have anything to do with what we can see in this patent?
Sometimes the design of the development kit turns out to be very similar to the final product. However, it often turns out to be totally different… And to tell the truth, I think this is the case here.
That said, a design to allude to the 'V' (Roman Number equivalent to five) would make some sense. In addition, the machine should be super powerful, so you may even need a special design. Still, I don't think the console we can find on the shelves has even 10% of this design.
PlayStation 5 to be unveiled on February 12, according to the latest information. But we still have some hope that Sony will drop some bomb before the end of the year.
