With mobile technology becoming increasingly part of our lives, "mobility" has become the keyword for the success of any kind of entertainment technology, such as games. So if you want to take your Steam games (the biggest online PC gaming platform today) around the house in the palm of your hand, there's only one way to make it happen: via the mobile app. Steam link.
With this app, PC gamers can stream their games directly to their smartphones (as long as the devices share a quality Wi-Fi connection). This means that as long as your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as your gaming PC, you can play any game in your library with just your mobile phone and a control with a Bluetooth connection.
To use the mobile app Steam link, you'll need three items: a gaming PC, a smartphone, and a compatible controller. Bluetooth. While you can test the app and navigate the menus without the controller, to play the games you will need one. Once you have these three handsets organized, just follow these instructions to enjoy your game library right on your smartphone!
Make sure streaming is enabled on your Steam account
After installing the games on your PC – as well as the mobile app Steam link on your smartphone (the app is compatible with Android and iOS) – make sure your account is set up to connect to Steam link. Go to menu Steam Client Settings from your PC, select Domestic Streaming and check the box Enable Streaming. On the same page, set up a PIN of the Steam link to log in,
Connect your controller to your phone
Create a pairing Bluetooth between the phone and the compatible control Bluetooth. Options can usually be found in your smartphone's settings menu. To pair a controller Bluetooth, you will probably need to enter certain commands (see your specific controller's operation guide for details on this), and then look for it at Available devices. When the control appears as a detected device, select it to pair your control with the phone.
Launch the Steam Link app
While the phone and PC are on the same network, the application should detect them and, through the phone, prompt you to enter a code on the PC. This will install some drivers on your PC. The installation should take a few minutes and by the time your machine is ready to connect to your phone through the application.
Enter your PIN
At this point you will need to enter your custom PIN (which you created in step 1 of this guide) in the app. Once this is done, the application should verify that your controller and PC are linked to your phone. This is a standard security measure of Steam to protect player data and prevent malicious users from accessing their information and playing their games or even stealing their passwords.
When the app Steam link To confirm that your control, PC and network are ready, Touchez the Start Play button of the app. This will take you to a smartphone-sized version of Steam Big Picture, from which you can select and play any platform game installed on your PC. From there, you have a complete view of your game library and just pick the one you want to start and start playing anywhere you want!
Steam Link General Impressions
The mobile app Steam link It's simple to set up, easy to use in your design, and more than capable of doing your job as long as you have a wireless network stable and with a reasonable speed. It gives you full access to your installed game library with minimal frame loss and entry delay, and generally lives up to its promise, even with a very serious flaw.
We performed tests with the Steam link with multiple controllers DualShock 4 wireless (controls fully compatible with the Steam), but the app declined to recognize them even though the phone was paired with the mentioned drivers. At one time or another, the Steam link decided to recognize a DualShock 4but these moments of functionality were sporadic and brief.
Although it has very stable functionality, it is important to note that it is still in beta (with testing to be done by the developer team before the final release). So be prepared to encounter some connectivity or malfunction issues.
With that in mind, know that the Steam link It's great – when it works. It provides useful service and makes PC gaming a more comfortable mobile experience.
