The Vive Cosmos is the very first high-end virtual reality (VR) system for PC, designed to offer an optimal degree of accessibility and a great ease of use. It evolves over time according to the needs of users thanks to its modular front design which can change the functionality of the helmet, such as for example the new Vive Cosmos External Tracking Mod. The Cosmos will be sold in Europe on October 3 at a price of € 799, and can be reserved for pre-order from September 12.
Graham Wheeler, CEO of Vive Europe underlines
Vive Cosmos, technical characteristics
The Vive Cosmos has been designed to adapt to the needs and expectations of VR customers, and highlights user-friendliness, versatility and performance. The all-new Vive tracking system guarantees a simplified and never-before-seen installation to immerse yourself in the VR world as quickly as possible: 6 camera sensors for Inside Out motion detection.
The Cosmos offers a combined resolution of 2880 x 1700 pixels, 88% more than the original Vive, a guarantee of sharp text and images. The new LCD screens limit the distance between pixels and, together with RGB color screens, reducing the grid or screen-door effect.
The exclusive flip-up retractable design lets you switch from reality to virtual reality in seconds, all without disrupting the VR experience. Ergonomics and comfort are optimal and allow to extend the adventure, especially as the built-in over-ear headphones offer a totally immersive sound. Cosmos is also equipped with redesigned controllers that maximize the functionality of VR, to ensure superior comfort during extended sessions. It is also compatible with the Vive Wireless Adapter to enjoy VR without cluttering cables.

The very first “modular” helmet
With its modular front panel, the Vive Cosmos is the first most versatile high-end VR headset on the market. The dedicated accessories soon available will thus change the destination of the helmet, allowing it to evolve over time. The very first module or “mod” on the market, the Internal Tracking Mod, unveiled today, is aimed at customers wishing to use their Lighthouse base station for monitoring purposes, while benefiting from the superior performance of the Vive Cosmos. This first module is compatible with the base station and supports the ecosystem of Vive devices, in particular the Vive Tracker which allows ideal freedom of movement for VR controls. This new module will be marketed at the start of 2020.
New adventures included
The Vive Cosmos is the first VR headset to provide access to an incredible amount of content, thanks to the included 12-month subscription to the Viveport Infinity service. It is offered to people who pre-order the helmet, and will therefore realize many savings.
Each customer who pre-orders the Cosmos before October 2 will receive a code giving access to these 12 months of subscription. The Viveport Infinity catalog contains hundreds of popular apps, games and videos, including Fisherman’s Tale, Fujii and Ninja Legends, as well as premium videos from top brands like GoPro, Discovery Channet and Animal Planet. And on the occasion of the launch of the Vive Cosmos helmet, Viveport Infinity will also add new titles such as Doctor Who: The Edge of Time (BBC), the Science Fiction Eleven Eleven experience, Atlas V’s Gloomy Eyes, Gumi’s words of Gargantua, MLB Home Run Derby by MLB and much more.
Vive Reality System
As soon as it is unpacked, the Vive Cosmos allows you to immerse yourself directly in the virtual worlds, thanks to the new Vive Reality system. It is the first helmet to give access to this system, which is software redesigned for Vive with a whole new philosophy for VR, offering an extension of reality. The user no longer has this feeling of launching applications, but rather that of jumping from one world to another.
The Cosmos has a revamped user interface. Called Lens, it facilitates navigation within extended reality (XR) and applications in the Viveport Infinity catalog, with a new dynamic space called Origin. The latter will allow you to benefit from VR applications and interactive experiences, the number of which will subsequently increase.
