If something is popular in the city where you live, do not hesitate: it is infinitely more popular in New York City. And in particular cases, that can lead to situations that we would never have imagined would happen. It is the case of the AirPods that are lost in the subway network of the Big Apple.

They tell from the Wall Street Journal (and reflect in MacRumors) that people lose so much AirPods in the New York subway, that the city's public transport authority is planning to launch public address announcements warning of it. They have even been able to determine when the AirPods 2 were launched after seeing that suddenly the amount of losses reported was growing substantially.

Those responsible for maintenance of the subway provide figures: a typical working day at noon may have received 18 notices of losses and 6 of those notices may be from the AirPods. The humidity and heat in the subway make the headphones slide more, and in key moments they fall to the roads where it is very difficult to recover them. "They are very small", complain those same responsible,"although at least they are white and so they can be seen better in the dark".

Thus, public transport in New York plans to notify public address to travelers who are specifically careful with their AirPods at times like entering and leaving the wagons. And especially not to store or remove those headphones in those moments of movement since the risk of being lost between the tracks is high. And of course, the worst thing you can do is jump to the tracks to try to recover them.
