This Friday (8), on NBC, the 150th episode of The Blacklist. And there’s something to be celebrated, as many series can’t even come close to that mark. The attraction, which accumulates several stories, twists, secrets and several moral and ethical dilemmas, presents Red Reddington (James Spader) in his adventures (and misadventures) in the world of crime.
The episode titled “Roy Cain” (#150) even had a backstage celebration party, when the coronavirus pandemic had not yet affected the productions of several series.
On that same occasion, cast and crew were still able to celebrate the renewal for the 8th season. In an interview with TV Guide, James Spader and Megan Boone, as well as creator Jon Bokenk, revealed several curious things over the 150 episodes.
Spader, in the interview, described himself as “tired but excited” from doing all those episodes. “I used to be very impressed by all of this, and even now, just before the season, it feels like I’m preparing for a big long-running race,” said the 60-year-old actor.
He’s found that when he’s not talking to the writers about long-term plans, since he’s also an executive producer, he can focus on acting for the episodes.
During the first seven seasons of the series, Boone’s life was intertwined with that of his character Elizabeth Keen. With the FBI agent, Boone celebrates being in the regular cast of a very famous series.
“Going on stage with such an experienced actor has brought incredible benefits to my work and my life experience,” said the excited actress.
“And I think for the audience there was the question: ‘Who is this girl?’ This worked really well for the story. But for me, this was a challenging place to be. I really felt I had to prove myself,” he told the TV Guide.
Creator Jon Bokenk recalled being desperate to pass the pilot. “When you make a movie, you make the movie, then you go to the premiere and everyone slaps you on the back,” he said. “When the pilot was over, I was like, ‘oh my God, we have to do another one of these next week and then another and another one.”
However, Spader said he thought the series was renewed relatively early, because the writers needed to plan for Season 8 to figure out exactly how to end the one on air.
With the Covid-19 prevention measures, the season had to be shortened. However, there is certainly a lot to come. Until then, you can find out about episode 150 of the series right here!
