If you realize that your Apple Watch Series 2 or Series 3 has a damaged screen, so beware. According to the Cupertino company, a replacement program is available. This was yesterday publicly announced.
The repair program solves a “very rare” screen breakdown problem. However, the problem has been repeatedly reported by owners of older aluminum watch models.
Screen Repair Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 3
Officially launched under the name of “Exchange and Repair Extension Program”, the replacement initiative covers Apple Watch Aluminum Series 2 and Series 3. However, as the brand says, screen cracking is a problem that can happen “in very rare circumstances”.
According to Apple, damaged units have a crack that forms along the rounded edge of the screen. As we can see in the images below, there is a default for this defect. The crack may start on one side of the device before propagating to other parts of the display.
The company did not specify an underlying cause of the problem. However, customers have reported damage in the past similar to that detailed in the repair program document. In some cases, users' devices showed cracks just weeks after purchase, and reportedly without substantial trauma.
If the fault resides in the displays or device design of the Apple, this explanation remains unknown.
What are the Apple Watch eligible?
Also unknown is whether the Apple plans to reimburse affected customers for the cost of previous screen replacements. According to the document, this information is not specified. However, it is unlikely that Apple offer the option as it would be difficult to verify claims that a watch has been damaged by the now known issue.
The variants of Apple Watch eligible for screen replacement service include 38mm and 42mm aluminum Apple Watch Series 2, Apple Watch Nike + Series 2, Apple Watch Nike + Series 3 with GPS + Cellular, Apple Watch Nike + Series 3 with GPS and Apple Watch Nike + Series 3 with GPS + Cellular. All color options are included in the program.
THE repair program web page includes a link to a supporting document that explains how users can identify their watch Apple by the model number, which can be found in the application Watch that exists on iOS. In addition, the Apple Watch also has this information.
