The British Anti-Doping Agency is bombarded with thousands of attempts to destroy its system through an email attack in 2019, according to new research.
According to an investigation by Parliament Street think tanks, the body was totally hit with 11,148 malicious emails in the last three months of last year.
The data, which was collected through a Freedom of Information (FoI) request from Parliament Street, found that the organization reported a total of 2,312 phishing emails in the affected period.

Fancy bear attack
During the three months in question, November 2019 witnessed the highest number of attacks, with 4,244 spam and malicious emails being blocked, followed by 3,686 in December and 3,218 for the period from October 10, 2019 to 31 October 2019.
Understandably, no attack is successful, but the risk posed by such attacks is very real, as was seen in 2016, when cyber hacking group "Fancy Bears" hacked the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and released secret data on athletes .
The data includes information related to several famous athletes, including Mo Farah and Rafael Nadal.
"These numbers are reminders of the cybersecurity hurdles facing sports and sports organizations charged with managing confidential data of famous people," said Andy Harcup, vice president of Absolute Software.
"Many of these agents require staff members to travel regularly, which means that mobile devices such as laptops and tablets are the primary target of opportunistic hackers and thieves."
"Addressing this problem requires that all organizations adopt a resilience approach to cyber security. This means creating critical automatic recovery applications and collecting information to correct endpoint vulnerabilities so that hackers remain blocked. In addition, they have the ability to track, freeze and erase lost devices, ensuring that a lost or stolen device containing highly classified data is protected at all times and under all circumstances. ”
