If you have been looking for a way to further improve security when it comes to managing all your accounts online, and it turns out to be an iPhone user, then you should check out this little security key.
Called YubiKey 5Ci and manufactured by Yubico, this is the first security key prepared for iPhone and iPad in the world that can offer a "solid hardware-backed authentication" through a Lightning connection. The small dongle also has USB-C connectivity that will allow you to use it on Mac devices, Windows and Android (but not on iPad Pro).
What the 5Ci does is provide support for authentication without a multi-factor password (MFA), two-factor (2FA) and single-factor iPhone. The device will work directly with several password managers and single sign-on tools, including 1Password, LastPass, DashLane, Bitwarden, Idaptive and Okta. In addition, the gadget will work with the Brave browser to provide quick login to several applications, including GitHub and Twitter.
The security key, which costs $ 70, supports a variety of standards for passwordless authentication, including FIDO2, WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, OTP (unique password), PIV (smart card) and OpenPGP. But to use it with certain applications, developers must integrate Yubico Mobile SDK for iOS.
To use the 5Ci, all you need to do is connect it to an iPhone, Android phone or computer, and then touch it to log in to the compatible applications. The key does not require a battery or Internet connectivity to work and can easily be added to your keychain. It is crucial, of course, that you do not lose the password and that you configure a backup, either through an authentication application or a 5Ci secondary key. The YubiKey 5Ci is now available on Yubico.com.
