Since the launch in December 2016, the AirPods enjoy extreme popularity. The meanwhile second generation of the completely wireless headphones had to be beaten but in a comparison test a competitor.
Apple AirPods with bad sound: Consumer Reports also crowns wireless alternative
The USA-based Consumer Reports is comparable to the German Stiftung Warentest. Previous tests and results of the consumer organization have caused quite a stir in the past Apple-World. The new comparison between Apple's AirPods and Samsung's Galaxy Buds (via 9to5Mac) could once again be critical in the face of the story between the two companies.
According to the testers, the comparison of the two wireless headphones could win the South Korean in-ear models. In particular, the sound quality of the AirPods went to the collar. Consumer Reports describes the bass as one of the weak points. The low frequencies are indeed present, but it lacks the "round" sound and "the depth". The sound is almost identical to the old wired EarPods.
Different with the Galaxy Buds. The bass is somewhat over-emphasized, but sounds better than the AirPods. Overall, the other frequency ranges left a better impression than Apple's white earplugs.
Here are our tests from Samsung's Galaxy Buds and Apple's AirPods (1st generation).

Apple AirPods: Good grades for integration
However, the testers praised the extremely deep and easy integration of the AirPods with Apple's other devices. Laboratory tests of the sound quality of telephone calls are not part of the investigations. Nevertheless, the testers mentioned that the AirPods sound way better to the other than the others Galaxy Buds. Among other things, this was due to a better suppression of background noise.
The comparison of the two cases gave no clear winner. Both manufacturers offer advantages and disadvantages here. The AirPods, including the battery integrated into the charging case, have a longer breath. On the other hand, there is only one variant of the case on Samsung and this offers a wireless charging. Who brings AirPods with a wireless charging case? Apple buy, must invest 50 euros more than for the standard variant. The cases of both manufacturers are small enough to carry comfortably in the pocket – even if Apple's case is a bit thinner.
In the near future, new AirPods could be introduced – here in the concept to see:
There were clear prints for the touch operation of the AirPods. In this area give the Galaxy Buds the user much more ways to control the music. By repeatedly tapping on the earplug, various functions can be controlled.
Consumer Reports also tested both headphones with devices from the competition. The result was that the Galaxy Buds work better with an iPhone than the AirPods with an Android device. The Galaxy Buds received 86 points from Consumer Reports, while the AirPods only had to settle for 56 points. However, the testers said at the same time that the AirPods are good enough for many users, but the clear winner comes from Samsung.
