Microsoft has begun releasing a new version of Windows 10 in the Insider program that brings improvements to the OS Bluetooth connection system. The news is an expansion of the Swift Pair program, launched in 2018, and should reach all users in the first half of 2020.
The Swift Pair system allows the user to connect a Bluetooth device via notification, without having to open settings and access the devices page. According to PCWorld, the new product was launched last year and worked only with Surface Mouse, but will now also be compatible with other Microsoft products.
According to the creator of Windows, build 18985, which is already being distributed by the firm, also supports functionality on the following Surface devices:
- Surface Ergonomic Keyboard
- Surface Precision Mouse
- Microsoft Modern Mobile Mouse
- Surface Mobile Mouse
- Microsoft Arc Mouse
- Surface Arc Mouse
- Surface headphones
In addition to adding more devices to the quick connect system, Microsoft has also streamlined the process. The company has decreased the number of Swift Pair notifications, added a "dismiss" button on the card and more information such as product name and category.
According to Microsoft, the expansion of the Bluetooth quick connect program is available to 50% of users of the Windows Insider The company did not explain the reason for the limitation, but possibly because the functionality is still in the process of being developed.
Despite being a major evolution, the news does not yet bring great advantages to all users of the Windows 10, as the Bluetooth fast connection is only available for Microsoft peripherals. In the future, though, the company may add support for third party devices in Swift Pair.
