The analysis agency Canalys released a report on the wearables market in Q2 2021. In addition to the sector’s 6% growth, Xiaomi has surpassed the Apple and became the leading supplier of smart watches and bracelets.
According to the data, the Chinese manufacturer had a shipment of 8 million devices during the period. With a small difference, the North American big tech sent to stores 7.9 million watches of the line Apple Watch.
The report cites some factors that favored Xiaomi in the dispute. While the Chinese brand launched Mi Band 6 in Q2, many Apple fans remained awaiting the announcement of the Apple Watch 7.
“Xiaomi had a wise attitude in advancing the launch of the Mi Band 6, a more attractive device than its predecessor. This helped the brand increase wearable shipments by 1.3 million units this quarter,” says analyst Cynthia Chen.
However, the result is different when separating basic smartbands from sophisticated smartwatches. THE Apple continues to lead the premium market with a 31.1% share — a number similar to the recent study by Counterpoint Research.
