The Mi 9T Pro, also known as Redmi K20 in some regions, was the potential successor to the Pocophone F1. The device brings all the features we expect to see in 2019 from a model that costs four digits. Here is our full review of the Mi 9T Pro.
- ✓Affordable Value
- ✓Quality OLED Screen
- ✓Big battery
- ✕Without IP67 or 68
- ✕No microSD support
Price and availability
The Redmi Mi 9T Pro is available throughout Europe and the United Kingdom. Outside this region, however, the model is known as the Redmi K20. Its price is 399 euros ($ 1,800 without tax) for 64GB version and 499 euros ($ 2,224 without tax) for the 128GB variant.
The owners of the Mi 9T will be familiar with the look of the Mi 9T Pro. It is identical to its predecessor and follows the same style of construction with aluminum and glass. Everything is very solid and of quality.
The back has a relatively colorful effect, which is a bit "too much for me" but it should please the young and cool. At the front is Gorilla Glass 5, not 6, as it has been used in newer models in China.
The camera's pop-up compartment is made of plastic with the front made of glass. There are LEDs on its side that light up when the engine is activated. These lights also act as a charging indicator and notifications. In that same region, at the top, is the headphone jack.
As I commented at the beginning of the article, the Mi 9T comes with all the features we expect in a modern 2019 model: OLED display and low edge, notched front end, Qualcomm high-end processor, USB-C and biometrics sensor under the screen.
What is left out, however, is the wireless charging and memory card slot. The most demanding will also miss the waterproof certification.
Screen and software
The Mi 9T Pro's aspectquote> screen remains unchanged compared to the Mi 9T. We have a 6.39 ”OLED panel with Full HD + resolution and 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. It supports the Widevine L1 DRM protocol, which processes videos from online services, such as Netflix or Prime Video, at a maximum resolution of 4K.
Big and bright, the screen is one of the highlights of the Mi 9T Pro. The software is also ready to take advantage of the large panel, featuring read mode, system-wide dark theme, and a battery-friendly Ambient Screen that can be programmed . The MIUI 10 is highly customizable and offers cool features, some more advanced than others.
The portable camera has its advantages, and one of them is to keep the screen without holes. Personally, I use the camera a little for selfies in everyday life, but when I use it I don't feel any interference in my experience. The Mi 9T Pro came to consolidate my taste for the popup system.
The biggest difference between Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro is the processing. Here the chipset was changed from Snapdragon 730 to Snapdragon 855, the same as Note 10, with 8GB of RAM. The graphics card jumps from Adreno 618 to 640.
The device behaves well in any situation. One change that further interfered with its performance was the move from the MIUI 10 launcher to Poco Launcher 2.0, which made the Mi 9T Pro even faster. The RAM Jet function, which is an optimizer for the system, works well and catches your breath lost in heavier activity.
Already the biometric sensor on the screen is optical and not ultrasonic, and also did an interesting job in testing. It's not perfect in terms of accuracy and speed, but it's within what we expect from a phone like the Mi 9T Pro.
Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro – Camera
The lens set also remained the same as the Mi 9T aspectquote>, and that's good. The rear camera module consists of three lenses:
- 48 MP, f / 1.7 aperture, standard lens;
- 13 MP, f / 2.4 aperture, wide-angle lens;
- 8 MP, f / 2.4 aperture, 2x optical zoom.
The only novelty of this model compared to cameras is the laser autofocus that can be activated from the 48 MP main sensor. The wide angle lens can also be used for videos. The 20 MP front sensor can be used for selfies and face unlocking.
Another highlight is the free fall function, which detects when the smartphone is falling and quickly closes the retractable compartment. Below is the gallery of images made with Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro for comparison:
Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro – Battery
The Mi 9T Pro's battery aspectquote> has 4,000 mAh and is compatible with the market. What changes between the Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro is the turbo charging power, which goes from 18W to 27W.
I used the device to cover IFA 2019 and was surprised by its autonomy. That's because I used the camera often, Slack, WhatsApp and email, as well as countless audio recordings. The result was that I arrived at the end of the day with 25% load. On an average day on average I consumed 50% of the load in 12 hours.

The Pocophone F1 has come to add value to the input mid-segment, while the Mi 9T has come to add cutting-edge features that we used to see only in high-end models. The Mi 9T Pro, in turn, blends the best of both worlds and delivers the user in a cost-effective package.
There are few features left out to keep the price of the Mi 9T Pro attractive, such as wireless charging. It is an unbeatable model in its price range and it becomes, at least for me, the best advanced intermediary on the market.
